          Why Should I Attend?

Federal DOT regulations require training (and retraining) of all
employees who perform work functions covered by the Hazardous
Materials Regulation (HMR; 49 CFR 172.700). Any employee who works
in a shipping area or who may be involved in preparing or transporting
hazardous materials is required to have this training. This includes not
only airbag modules and batteries, but also hazardous waste such as
waste paint and used parts cleaner solvent. If you sign the documents,
you are the shipper. It is the employer's responsibility to fully comply
with the training requirements. Failure to train employees may result in
civil and / or criminal penalties of up to $50,000 per violation.

          Who Should Attend?

A HAZMAT employee who directly affects hazardous material
transportation safety must be trained in accordance with this standard.
This includes any individual who:
  • Loads, unloads or handles hazardous materials (HAZMATS)
  • Tests, reconditions or repairs HAZMAT containers
  • Prepares HAZMATS for transportation (labels, shipping papers)
  • Operates a vehicle containing HAZMATS (including deliveries)
  • Is responsible for the transportation safety of HAZMATS

Federal Law requires each business to have all persons who perform the
above functions to be certified. Certifications are only valid for three
years from the date of training.
